Old school best friends are best

Just wanna give a shout out to my good friend Jared from the twin cities. It's been too long.

Art of Bocce

I'm okay Eurokay

I just can't quit finding old photographs on my computer. This one (taken in June 2007) was almost lost to a failed hard drive. For whatever reason, I backed it up and now I'm glad I did. This was taken from the middle of a bridge in Florence, Italy. I travelled to the country with two good friends whom I have not seen in awhile: Michael O'neill Burns and Andrew Stovesand.

This is German from Los Angeles. I met this guy 4 years ago shortly before he drove a small group including myself from Orange County, California to Ensenada, Mexico. He inspired me to learn Spanish, a goal I have strived for, though hit and miss, ever since. He told me crazy stories of gang violence that he witnessed firsthand during his upbringing in LA while driving our 12 passenger van like a formula 1 racer through the rocky dirt roads of rural Baja, Mexico. Never flinching. Never in danger. He was in complete control. He was able to walk through cultural barriers that, try as I might, I could not break down. Within minutes, German would become family to complete strangers, and that was my window into their world. It gave me an unparalleled feeling of reverence and I probably would not have taken the solo journey of lifetime last summer down to Central America and Southern Mexico had it not been for his influence.

Here's to you G-man, wherever you are.

nostalgia

An old photograph taken from my summer spent in New Orleans, just before Hurricane Katrina. This was the street directly outside of our residence and it flooded like this almost daily. Napoleon Avenue runs left to right.

Last Days in the Twin Cities

This is my uncle Johnny. He is my favorite relative.

We walked around Lake Calhoun for awhile in Minneapolis.

An ice fisherman preparing for hours of freezing fun.

John's all smiles

Docked for the winter.

Before sunset.

My grandfather, and Johnny's father worked up top in the Foshay tower for years.

Downtown mural, Minneapolis is a lot more intriguing than I ever give it credit for.

Skateboarding is fun and Controversy is interesting

DIY Skate Plaza in San Antonio

Then Lester took me to I-10 ditch

A rare sight

Deep in the heart of Texas

These were put up in only a handful of cities around the country and only for a couple of months. This one is located just north of downtown San Antonio, which is where I happened to be when I heard about it from a podcast of all things. Ironically the only one that caused a heap of controversy, resulting in its early removal, was in Southern California.
